Did you know that between 18 to 36 months, your child is in a critical phase of motor skill development? At this stage, they are refining both fine motor skills (small muscle movements, like grasping a crayon) and gross motor skills (large muscle movements, like running and jumping).

Tips to Encourage Motor Skill Growth at Home
✅ Fine Motor Skills – These are essential for tasks like holding a pencil, using utensils, or buttoning clothes.
Try This! Provide your child with playdough, finger paints, or simple puzzles to improve finger strength and coordination.
Everyday Practice: Encourage them to pick up small snacks (like Cheerios) using their fingers or let them help with zipping up their jacket.
✅ Gross Motor Skills – These help with balance, coordination, and overall physical confidence.
Try This! Set up an indoor mini obstacle course with pillows to step over or tunnels to crawl through.
Outdoor Fun: Let them run, jump, and climb at the park to strengthen their leg muscles and balance.
Bonus Tips & Tricks
🎨 Creative Play – Drawing with sidewalk chalk or painting with sponges helps fine-tune their grip while making art fun!
🥄 Self-Feeding Practice – Let your toddler use child-sized spoons and forks to encourage independence at mealtime.
📖 Page-Turning Fun – Board books with textured pages make storytime interactive and help little fingers gain strength.
🎶 Dance & Music – Clapping, stomping, and dancing to music improves coordination while keeping things fun.
✨ TIP OF THE MONTH: Engage your toddler in simple household tasks like stirring pancake batter, putting toys away, or watering plants to build motor skills through real-world experiences.
